Saucony Xodus Iso Runshield Shoe Review
It has been eight years since I ran in a pair of Saucony shoes and my experience with them then was mediocre at best. I don’t remember the exact model, but I do remember the super high arch support that disagreed with my foot and the terrible amount of hot spots, where the material rubbed in all the wrong places. Everything always deserves a second chance, and what better way to take that chance than on the new Saucony Xodus Iso Runshield trail shoes.
The upper of the Xodus is made up of a Flexshell that has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment that sheds off water while still allowing the shoe to breathe. The Flexshell is a heavy duty like spandex material that gentle morphs to your foot. The shell has virtually no seams, eliminating the possibility of any hot spots. It is also gusseted which provides a slipper like fit and keeps out all of those sticks and stones.
The upper incorporates Saucony’s ISOFIT which creates a dynamic fit system by adapting to the shape and motion of the foot. Dividing the lacing into six separate holding points allows the upper to encase contrasting foot shapes, while still conforming as if the shoe was custom made for any foot.
The combination of these two systems provide a breathable, quick drying shoe that pleasantly hugs the foot, allowing you to keep your mind free to enjoy the run rather that worrying about your shoes.
The Xodus is updated with the EVERUN top sole construction that provides smoother landings in the heel and reduces pressure in the forefoot. They have a 4mm heel-to-toe offset which delivers a more natural ride, letting your feet and body do more of the work while relying a little less on the shoes’ cushioning and stability features. This shoe gives just the right amount of ground to foot sensory without feeling like it is lacking any cushioning.
The PWRTRAC rubber out sole offers three times better traction than standard rubber soles. The Xodus grabbed the trail exceptionally well and performed great on slippery surfaces putting my mind at ease, so I could enjoy my run. The PWRTRAC is durable and abrasion resistance, after more than 60 miles on the shoes they show very little wear, if any at all.
Fit and Feel
The fit and feel of the Xodus is something of a mix of putting on a favorite tee shirt to sliding into a pair of cozy slippers. Between the Flexshell and the ISOFit the shoe forms snugly to your foot. The brilliance of this design is that it will not only fit a variety of different foot shapes, it also allows a bit of give and play should you be running a marathon or an ultra, where feet tend to swell from excessive abuse.
Running in the Saucony Xodus was nothing but pleasant, just the right amount of lightweight cushioning, while providing the grip and stable traction that makes you feel sure footed out on the trails.

The Saucony Xodus Iso Runshield Shoe will support, cushion and give you a grippy ride on any trail. It was so comfortable and perfectly form fitted for me that it dethroned my top go to trail shoe. I am a bit disappointed that it took me 8 years to come back to Saucony, but I am so glad I did. The ONLY negative thing that I can say about the Xodus is that the price is on the high end, at $140. However for those of you that are willing to shell out a little extra cash for a supremely comfortable and supportive ride, you will not be disappointed.
