Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight Review
At first sight, I was sure that the Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight was a pure running tight or base-layer. I was pleasantly surprised that the Butter Tight is even more versatile than that and is a legging that is ready for casual, as well as active use.
Fabric and Function
The Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight is super soft thanks to Butter Midweight Jersey fabric. The Butter Midweight Jersey is not shiny like many tech fabrics, wash n wears well, and does not pill. The Butter Tight can be paired with tunics, skirts, and dresses for casual use without looking out of place. The tights can also be used as a running tight or base-layer when you are trying to limit the number of items you bring along on a weekend getaway, or even on extended cold weather travels.
When wearing the Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight for running, they kept my legs plenty warm when the temperatures dipped as low as 25F. Any colder and my legs were chilly after no more than 30 minutes of use. The Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight moves with you due to the incorporation of 15% elastane and wicked moisture better than a standard cotton legging. Mountain Hardwear has incorporated an anti-microbial finish to help minimize odor and allow you to wear them longer in between washes; a plus when on the road.
The Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight is thicker than any other legging I have owned for everyday use. This is a major plus during Colorado winters. Ruching at the lower leg gives the Butter Tight a bit of style, while the flat waistband allows for easy layering.
Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight Size and Fit
The Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight runs true to size and is plenty long with a 29″ inseam. The tights feature a gusseted crotch, which means that you don’t have to deal with any pesky seams rubbing you the wrong way. One beef that I have with the Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight and other tights that I have tested by MH, is that the crotch is a bit too large and tends to sag or get baggy while moving. To counteract this problem, I have had to pull the tights up quite high (above my belly button) or rolled the waistband over, which negates the flat waistband design.
As I mentioned before, the Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight is easier to care for and has maintained its’ original size and shape, ie no shrinking, despite many washings. You can also wash these by hand and they will be dry in about 2-3 hours if placed on an indoor drying rack.
The Mountain Hardwear Butter Tight is available in XS to XL. It is also available in two basic colors, black and graphite. These tights are a great addition as a staple piece for those seeking to minimize their baggage on a trip, while not having to sacrifice comfort and performance.
