The North Face Eurus Pant Review
This season, The north Face has come out with a pretty sweet waterproof shell ski pant. I’ve been testing these pants out early skiing in Colorado and I have to say, I really like them. I’ve skied them in conditions in all sorts of conditions, both icy and a foot or so of powder. These ski pants are made of a 3-layer fabric that incorporates The North Face’s waterproof HyVent technology. HyVent is The North Face’s proprietary waterproof system, similar to the popular waterproof system by Gore-Tex. The Eurus pant doesn’t have any sort of insulation incorporated into it, so I usually wear a base layer or some thicker running tights when temperatures get cold. Whether you use a insulated ski pant is a personal preference, I personally have insulated and non insulated pants that I use. When temperatures are above 5 degrees farenheight, I usually am warm enough with a non-insulated pant, but when it gets super cold outside, I switch over to an insulated pant.
The Eurus pants come with a variety of zippers and pockets. For the zippers on the legs, they go up about 4/5 of the leg, giving you excellent breathability for when it’s warmer out or if your upping your heart rate. There are two zippers on the leg, one on the top and one on the bottom. There are two standard hip zippered pockets, and one zippered pocket on the right leg. These pockets hold a smart phone and small snack, not much else. Typically I use my jackets for bigger things anyways. Last but definitely not least, there is a zipper that circles around your rear end. I was wondering whether this was all that necessary when I saw it. Drum roll…. Yes, it is great! Since the pants come with suspenders, you sometimes get put into a situation when nature calls. Without getting into too much detail, the zipper near the rear end is useful…
To keep the inside of the pant cuffs from are reinforced to keep them from wearing down in a common place. To allow for us crazy skiers that have our knees bending and our legs flying this way and that, the Eurus pants come with articulated knees. The articulated knees in the pants allow them to have a better fit on your leg when in motion. The pants are seam sealed which keeps moisture from getting in where there are seems. This feature is becoming fairly standard on most high-end waterproof jackets and pants.
As skiing and snowboarding is becoming a fashion contest on the mountain these days, looking good and looking the part seems to get more popular. I personally think the Eurus pants look pretty sweet. They have a sleek black and red color combo that has been a classic ski look for decades and will be for decades to come in my mind.
