Review: Montrail Mountain Masochist GTX (The Keeper)

The Montrail Mountain Masochist is an exceptional trail running shoe for those looking to run on anything from fire roads to the rocky and rutted single-track trails. The Masochist has a Gore-Tex liner that prevents your feet from getting wet while running through puddles and in the rain. During testing, we found the shoes to perform incredibly well when striking large rocks or tree stumps; the full plate under the foot provided excellent protection. The shoe is extremely stable and your feet stay comfortable thanks to an excellent cushioning system. The Mountain Masochists also touts a large bumper zone, which prevented testers from experiencing painful stubbed toes. The Mountain Masochist felt light on our feet, while also providing an excellent balance of protection, support, and traction. When heading out for a long trail run, the Montrail Mountain Masochist is the shoe that our staff will be turning to and has won the prestigious award, ”The Keeper”.
