New Balance Shimmel Tank Review
October was Breast Cancer Awareness month and I found myself running in the New Balance Shimmel Tank quite regularly. I’m pretty sure that the pink color, performance fabric, and close fit all combined to make me want to take this top out time and again during the unseasonably warm fall days.
The Shimmel Tank features an adjustable internal shelf bra that is designed for medium impact activities; however, add a racer back sports bra and you are ready to conquer high impact activities as well with little to no bounce. The straps are padded and super soft, which eliminates any pinching or chaffing in that area. One downside, the underarm seams are a bit bulky which can mean underarm chaffing with heavy sweating or long duration wear. This happened to me for two reasons: I need to get to the gym more and tone my arms and #2, the likelihood for chaffing increases dramatically when you wear a top for over 18 miles of running!
Despite this problem, I really liked the sturdy, yet comfortable feel that the Lightning Dry fabric provided. The fabric was excellent at managing moisture and is composed of 83% polyester and 17% spandex. The tank runs true to size, hits at the top of the hip, and has a snug fit, without being overly constricting. Other features we liked include the reflectivity at the shoulder and rear to increase the likelihood of being seen by others and the rear zippered pocket that can carry a gel or your music without bouncing all around. The tank comes with New Balances’ ICE or In Case of Emergency tab, which I enjoy filling out, as I am a bit of a worry wart.
