Helly Hansen Pace Shorts Review

As the summer racing season heats up, many of us are looking for that special pair of shorts which looks great, but not too long or short, to wear on the starting line.  The Helly Hansen Pace Shorts has been a top choice of mine in this regard.

The fabric is silky light with the shell made of 100% polyester and the lining 59% polyester / 41% polypropylene which is Helly Hansen’s Lifa® moisture management lining material.  The wicking function worked well and I stayed fairly dry during several test runs here in Colorado during the summer.  My waist is 29’’ which technically is a size XS, but I tested out a pair of size medium which worked fine.  What I like about these shorts is the fact that they are comfortably shorter (3.0’’ inseam & 18.5’’ outseam, size medium) than many of my other training shorts, but longer than most traditional track/race shorts out there.  Therefore, the Pace Shorts is a great choice if you are looking for an unrestricted shorts for fast runs but with a more modest look.

The shorts come with an inner key storage pocket which is wider than most, so it could fit a gel if desired, and a zipper rear pocket big enough for keys, credit card, etc.  I liked the stripes on the sides of the shorts, common for the Helly Hansen line, which adds flare to the look.  The Pace Shorts is something I’ll definitely find good use in tempo runs and races.
