adidas adiSTAR Salvation 3 Review

Last week we reviewed the new adidas Supernova Sequence 4, and the new Adidas adiSTAR Salvation 3 is a bit like the Bentley to the Sequence’s Cadillac. Both are great shoes and are packed with many of the same great Adi technologies, but you just know when you’re rollin’ in a Bentley!

This new iteration of the Salvation is also a shoe aimed at runners needing significant pronation control and stability, so it shares the Pro-moderator medial post with the Sequence, but our testers thought the midsole of the Salvation felt a bit more plush than that of the Sequence. The ‘plush’ doesn’t stop in the midsole – the upper of the Salvation is composed of mesh and super-supple microsuede, which combined with the Adidas-stripe saddle and lacing system, makes for a nice secure, great-feeling fit. This is also made a great nighttime or dusk trainer by the 360-degree reflective elements on the upper.

The Sequence has the same fully-decoupled heel pod on the lateral side which is made up of 3D Formotion and our testers think that this feature, along with adiPRENE foam and the Torsion system, helps to smooth out the ride and heel-toe transition. The Salvation never feels like a clunky motion control shoe.

We beat up the Salvation 3 on shorter recovery runs as well as long runs up to 10 miles and it kept the comfort coming all the way home and didn’t feel ‘packed-out’ at the end of those longer jaunts.

Overall, we recommend the Salvation 3 for runners needing a fair amount of pronation control, but not wanting to sacrifice comfort and grear ride. At $140, the Salvation 3 can’t exactly be called a budget running shoe, but hey, when you’re looking for a Bentley, you are likely willing to drop a bit of paper. With the Adidas adiSTAR Salvation 3, you will get what you pay for.
