I used to have a pair of Saucony “Jazz” and they were great all around shoes. Do they still make them? I haven’t found them in local stores.

I need shoes with a lot of cushioning. Can you recommend a running/walking shoe that has the most cushion.
Also, can you recommend a hiking boot with the most cushion.
Or, should I simply use a cushioned orthotic. Do you recommend any?

Thanks for your comment. You can read our reviews of the New Balance 1063, and the Asics GEL Nimbus 11 here on ActiveGearReview.com. Both are great high-mileage shoes for neutral runners with exceptional comfort and cushioning- I personally run in both models.

Really? I haven’t found this to be the case for myself. I’m 5′2″ and 118 lbs and I’m absolutely in love with the NB769. I had been running in Saucony Guide and Asics 2140 but I just LOVE the NB769. It is nice and snug on my feet, no slipping around inside of them. The cushioning is perfect all over and they can definitely withstand the miles.
I’m really curious as to why the testers feel this is a shoe geared toward medium-large framed runners.
The new NB MT910GT MAY just be the best fitting, most comfortable, running show I have ever owned. Sure it’s a waterproof (Gore-Tex) trail shoe, but the shoe is so light, and flexible, it is even great for the road.
Expect a lot MORE great things from New Balance.
Just picked these up today so haven’t had a real chance to give them a workout, they did however feel great on the TM but I will say that the fit was exactly what I was expecting from New Balance. I currently run in New Balance 1062 and 1063s on the road. This shoe fit more like the older 1062 in my opinion, and I liked it. My U.S. size 10 weighed in a 410gm each a bit under the published 420gm for a size 9.5. so a bit lighter then stated but not a lot. The cushioning seems fine but they are a bit less flexible through the midsection of the shoe probably because of the rock plate.
Overall looks like a good prospect from the folks at New Balance for the trail runner.

This piece is sweet because of the breathable back and WINDSTOPPER front…so perfect for the cold weather run or skate ski.
Totally have the shorts, and they rock!! I’m not a large guy, but the chafing is a nightmare in those skimpy little shorts that runners tend to wear. Have run long distances in these guys (10+ miles) and never had an issue! Awesome stuff!!
Im glad to see this getting some attention. I got my ENO lounger as a gift from my girlfriend last year and I use it all the time. super comfortable and it packs down easily. Usually it hangs from an eye-bolt on my front porch but I also take it on trips w/ me. I definitely recommend this chair and ENO, they have alot of great stuff on the website.
Sounds like it beats the old dehydrated camp food by a long shot — I suppose I’ll have to try it out for myself before passing final judgment though, my Ramen noodles have treated me right for many years!
The pouch size is wonderful for fitting keys, Gel, and my small GPS. The ergo bottle really helps me keep my hands relaxed when I run, so I don’t feel like I need to grip the bottle for it to stay in place. The only complaint I have about this bottle is, the spout is rock hard and difficult to open. I really like the sport bottles with a rubber or softer spout so I can pull it open with my teeth. With the amphipod I feel like I am going to rip my teeth out of my mouth when I open the spout. Over all I love my bottle and would be willing to spend a couple of bucks for a replacement bottle if they came out with a softer spout.

This tool is a great complement for today’s hunter. The only setback, from my experience, is that the arrow indicator does not precisely point you back to the waypoint. Nevertheless, the tool is still very useful in locating the waypoint by using the arrow as a general guide and as you come within 20-40 yards of the waypoint you can locate your exact position by reference to whether the yards are indicating that you are getting closer or further away. I used this tool in the following situations and was successfully able to navigate back to the waypoint each time: First, I used it to locate the property gate in wide open and unfamiliar country in the dark. (In retrospect, a traditional GPS with some topo maps loaded would have been better, but the fact that I was able to navigate the back roads in Wyoming, make a determination that I had just passed the access road, and back up to the access road to find the gate speaks volumes of how useful this small and hearty tool can be in a pinch). Next, I used the BackTrack to successfully navigate over a mile and half of semi dense forest to get back to pre determined point where the rest of my party would be waiting for me. Last, I used this device to assess how far the shot was (a reverse range finder), relocate the downed game, and finally to relocate my expensive equipment that I had left behind to retrieve the game. Bottom line, for today’s hunter this item is essential! Say goodbye to spending time leaving a breadcrumb trail of orange tape behind. Say goodbye to spending valuable pre sunrise minutes trying to follow bright eyes in the dark with a flashlight to find your tree stand. This is a must have.

Great shoe, but seems to have less cushioning than the 8. I find myself going back to my 8’s for longer runs.
I’m a bit curious how long those fuel canisters last while using this thing.
I have a pair of these and they are the best!! So easy to use and they grip really well. They were so comfortable I didn’t even feel like I had snowshoes on! Tubbs definitely makes the best snowshoes out there.

While skipped over by some runners for it’s “affordable” price tag, the Gel-1150 deserves some attention for doing what it does without all the bells, whistles, and hoop-la. It’s a basic, dependable training shoe that keeps you moving on down the road. The bonus here is that for the price tag, you can buy two pairs for the price of those “high end” shoes, and not feel guilty about using them as gym cross trainers. I love the one’s I tested!
I’ve been running in K-Swiss’ K-Ona and Keahou 2’s. They are fantastic. The entire K-Swiss running range is really fresh and functional. I recommend giving them a try.
I have put in several long runs now in the Solution, and am impressed with its ability to cushion without soaking up energy or sapping speed. The fit and comfort of the upper is good, but I was definitely aware of the overlays and reinforcing pieces in the forefoot, and think this shoe could benefit from a bit ‘less’ construction in the forefoot. On long runs, I did enjoy the cushioning properties of the midsole system, which felt firm at first but great after a few miles. At 12.4 ounces, its not a super-featherweight, but is comparable in weight to other models in its class. I do think that the Solution is a good choice for the high-mileage runner seeking mild pronation control and good cushioning properties.
Tester Adam B. here, and I just tested these on a few runs and I have to say, I’m shocked at how good they are! I agree with the reviewer that motion control shoes are usually heavy, stiff, and clunky but the K-Swiss Konesic is none of these. It sports a comfortable yet secure upper fit and a surprisingly flexible, well-cushioned ride while still feeling like it will provide ample motion control for those needing it. At 12.5oz. I think that they’re actually quite svelte for a serious motion control shoe, making these a great choice for the runner needing motion control but still wanting a comfortable, fast-feeling shoe. K-Swiss is really picking up steam!
Ok is it me or are these things getting more and more popular? Not that its a hoodie but look at the dang Snuggy, I would have never guessed that those would become a hot item.

I’m a US Army Artillery Forward Observer…. running is a constant part of my life. I bought a pair of 910’s at the Ft. Lewis PX, for my physical training uniform, and I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. It rains a lot, at Ft. Lewis…. so the GoreTex is a nice touch, for out here. The comfort and weight leave nothing to be desired, whatsoever, and, holy hell, is this shoe stable! I have gone through about 8 different running shoes, in my 5 military years, and if I can help it at all, I will never own another model, again. This shoe ought to be issued to us, in Basic Training.
The watch also tells you “Happy Birthday” on your big day…it is not only a smart watch, but also a very friendly one too!
We also forgot to mention that the battery can now be replaced by YOU and no longer has to be sent to Polar.
