Patagonia Escala Capri Review

Escala 300x300 Patagonia Escala Capri Review

Are you looking for a capri ready to tackle open spaces and city streets? The Escala Capri by Patagonia have been a favorite among our female tester’s and may be the right capri for you. The Escala’s are constructed from a super sturdy cotton canvas with some added spandex to provide just enough stretch to move with you. The fabric is durable, yet not stiff and uncomfortable, and have already taken a beating while hiking, scrambling, climbing, or walking the dog. The articulated knees and gusseted crouch are a big plus too.

The Escala’s run a tad big and they tend to stretch out overtime. I typically wear a size 4 or 6 (5’9” and 135 lbs), and tested out a size 4. The stretchiness and give to these pants was not a problem, rather a bonus because it meant more free movement. The waist rise on these pants are a tad higher than I typically prefer, perhaps 1 inch lower rise next time around. However, the higher rise is a bonus if you are a climber, as your lower back/behind will be amply covered at all times. The Escala’s also feature a flat waistband and drawstring to cinch down a perfect fit; I do however wish that there was a loop or two to help clip a carabiner to.

The Escala’s have been perfect for spring and early summer temps. However, come the heat of summer their durability and ruggedness may be a bit much. Patagonia has plenty of other capri offerings for higher temp days, such as the W’s All Out or Borderless Capris. Overall, the Escala’s have been a great go to capri and appear to be built to withstand daily abuse for many years to come.
