Outdoor Research Switchback Cap Review

OR Switchback Cap 300x300 Outdoor Research Switchback Cap Review

We have long been a fan of OR’s Swift Cap, a highly breathable running cap designed for men with macho colors like dark grey, hunter green, and red. We were therefore extremely excited to test out a women’s specific running cap from OR, the Switchback Cap in a bright feminine blue hue. From the get go, we realized that these caps are quite different from one another. The Switchback does not have the breathable side panels like the Swift Cap, however, the Switchback has sewn eyelets for ventilation. In addition, the Switchback has nice features such as a hidden zippered pocket on the left side of the cap; we were able to easily stow our house key in the pocket without feeling the added weight or getting a headache from the key digging into our heads! The bill of the Switchback is foldable, which makes storing the cap in a pack or suitcase a breeze, no more worrying about ruining the bill while the cap is not in use (most running caps do not have this feature). The bill is a tad shorter than typical running hats and we felt this did not sacrifice our sun protection.

We loved the quick-release buckle adjustment system, but missed the ability to stow the extra strap within the cap which you can do with the Swift cap. The cap is a one size fits all or fits most, as some would say, and was comfy on our forehead and temples thanks to TransAction fiber, which also provides moisture management. The Switchback comes in bright colors for spring and summer and has a lovely floral pattern on the right side of the cap. We loved the fit, function, and look of the Switchback Cap and hope you do to. MSRP is $25. For more information, please visit OutdoorResearch.com
