GoLite Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress Review

Cayambe 300x300 GoLite Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress Review

Ever wish you could have a dress as breathable and airy as an ultra light tech tee?  Fortunately, your wishes have been answered by GoLite.  New for this summer, GoLite released the sporty-yet fashionable Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress.

The Cayambe weighs a mere 6.3 ounces and is constructed from GoLite’s DryMove Light fabric which is the lightest clothing fabric that they make.  Normally, our reviews mention the weights of products because we are always looking for the lightest tent, stove, sleeping bag, or jacket.  In this review, I bring up the weight for two reasons; for starters, wearing a dress so light during the heat of summer has been a real treat. When the temperatures climb, the Cayambe is a go to piece because of the breathable qualities of the fabric and the flowing fit which allows for some air movement and doesn’t leave you feeling overly constricted (which in my experience, makes me feel hotter!) Secondly,  getting 2 different color options for the price and weight of one dress is awesome on the wallet and perfect for traveling. 2 colors in one? If you didn’t catch it from the name of the dress, the dress is indeed reversible.  GoLite pairs a fun day time color such as light blue or cranberry with a darker color such as granite and beet, which are perfect for a night on the town.

I have taken the dress camping and crammed it into a pack and kept it folded (yes, folded) with some of my other summer tank tops while at home.  Every time I go to put the Cayambe on it may look a little crumpled for a few minutes, maybe even seconds, and then magically all the wrinkles are gone.  Yet another reason that the Cayambe would be so great for an active traveler.  Not to mention, it is also super easy to care for: wash and wear!

My only beef with the Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress is that it does not fit me wonderfully! I am 5’9″ and 135ish with an athletic build.  When it comes to GoLite’s running skirts and active tanks I wear a size medium. For reviewing purposes, I also ordered a medium.  Bad idea! The dress gapes under the arm pits and has a bit too much room in the chest and torso area.  I am thinking that a small would better suit my needs, and I rarely wear a small.  With that said, if you prefer a more generous cut then this dress is for you. The strap design is great because you can wear just about any bra you would like underneath, while the gathering detail at the chest region adds a bit of femininity to the dress. The bottom hem of the dress has a slight ruffle to it because of the raw edge stitching used by GoLite and falls just above the knees.

Because the Cayambe is so light weight and has a silk feel, some may want to throw a slip on underneath it because when you wear the lighter color out (such as the light ice blue), tiny imperfections, including bra lines are easily seen.  But if you aren’t too concerned, like me, you will find the Cayambe to be so comfortable that it is worth it.  Keep your eyes peeled online for the Cayambe by GoLite, it’s a great summer travel dress!
